Welcome to PharmaCares. We started the company to help U.S. Veterans as well as Americans in need gain access to affordable healthcare: health insurance, medicines and medical care.
There were two complimentary ideas that pushed us into starting the company. The first was a friend. I had been telling him how wonderfully things were going in my life and he nodded and said, “That’s great but what are you doing to change the world?”
It took two years to figure that out.
During that time, I learned that many Veterans have limited or no medical benefits and must wait long periods of time to get care. Since the VA is tiered, many Veterans who served less than 10 years receive limited benefits. I was deeply upset by this information.
Then as the Recession hit, I saw people in my community without healthcare: going without needed medicines and ongoing medical care.
PharmaCares was the result of two years of thinking, talking to peers, community leaders and looking for ways to improve access to healthcare and medicines.
Over the next couple of blog posts, I’m going to write about the path that led to creating PharmaCares and the reactions we’ve gotten from industry and the non-profits focused on helping those in need.
